Day 1: Amsterdam - Bruges by Coach
Arrival at Amsterdam airport after your overnight flight from the USA. Meet your escort at 1:00pm, departure to Bruges by private coach to Bruges. After arrival on board welcome drink and dinner. After dinner time to explore Bruges or go to bed early after your long trip. Overnight Bruges. Day 2: Bruges - Ghent
After breakfast time to explore the medieval center of Bruges around the Town Square to view the Belfry Tower with its Carillon, the Halle (the trading center of Bruges in the 13th century), the Town Hall and the many museums and churches. Lunch on board, time to leave for Ghent, bicyclists bicycle. Overnight Ghent. Day 3: Ghent - Dendermonde
After breakfast time to explore Ghent, by streetcar to the center of Ghent, to view the St. Bavo Cathedral, with its famous art work, Visit to "Het Gravensteen", the Castle of the Counts (built in 1180). The three impressive towers can be viewed from St. Michaels bridge (St. Nicholas, Belfry and St. Bavo Cathedral), etc. After lunch bike to Dendermonde. Walkers can walk into town. All will visit Mansion Notelaer. Overnight Dendermonde. Day 4: Dendermonde - Antwerp
Early departure to Antwerp. Bicyclists can go from board for a bicycle ride. Walkers wait until they arrive in Antwerp, then everybody can go and spend the rest of the day in town. Overnight Antwerp. Day 5: Antwerp - Willemstad
Horse and carriage ride to the open air market of Antwerp. Time to explore the market and the inner city. Walk back to the barge, lunch on board on by barge to Willemstad. Bikers can go from board earlier for a bike ride and walkers can explore this old walled town after arrival. Overnight Willemstad. Day 6: Willemstad - Dordrecht
Early departure by barge to Dordrecht, bikers can go by bike. Walkers will explore Dordrecht after arrival. Dordrecht has a very nice inner city with little inner harbors for small ships. It was a major trading center in the 17th century. Overnight Dordrecht. Day 7: Dordrecht - Delft
Bicyclists will bike from Dordrecht to Kinderdijk. Walkers will leave Dordrecht a little later by barge to go to Kinderdijk. Visit the largest concentration of windmills in the Netherland and see the inside of a working windmill. Bicyclists will go on board in Kinderdijk and all leave by barge passing through Rotterdam to Delft. After arrival visit to Delft Blue pottery factory, then walking tour of Delft, Market square with town hall and big church (the burial site of the first William of Orange (the Silent), who was assassinated in Delft. Overnight Delft. Day 8: Delft - Leiden
Everybody will leave the barge in the morning in Delft. Bicyclists bike to The Hague and then through the dunes to Leiden. Non-bicyclists will go by train and streetcar. Everybody will visit the Panorama Mesdag and the Mauritshuis Museum in the Hague. Non bicyclists have still time to visit Madurodam the famous miniature city (entrance fee not included). Then go by train to Leiden and walk to the barge with the walking guide. Ovenight in Leiden. Day 9: Leiden - Haarlem
This will be the day to visit the tulip fields. Bicyclists can go for a perfect bike ride through the middle of the flower region visit the Keukenhof and then on to Haarlem (25 miles). Non-bicyclists will go by public bus through the flower fields to the Keukenhof, visit the Keukenhof, on by public bus to Haarlem. After arrival, time to explore Haarlem. Overnight in Haarlem. Day 10: Haarlem - Amsterdam
Leave Haarlem by barge to go to Amsterdam. Bicyclists can leave a little earlier and will be picked up halfway. After arrival canal boat tour and walking tour of Amsterdam. Overnight Amsterdam. Day 11: Amsterdam
After breakfast, end of tour. Train to the airport is nearby (less than a ten-minute walk). Trains start at 5:00am and run every 15 minutes. |
