Overview
Loads of fun, new adventures and breathtaking scenery await you at Colorado Trails Ranch, located in the San Juan Mountains near historic Durango. At Colorado Trails Ranch, you’ll enjoy dude and guest ranch vacation activities that are a tradition in the American West: horseback riding, fly fishing, cattle drives, whitewater rafting, hiking and trips to Mesa Verde National Park. In addition, Colorado Trails Ranch has special programs for kids and teens where they can participate with their peers in a variety of healthy outdoor activities, develop new skills and self-confidence, and make new friends. In the evenings, you can enjoy a campfire sing-a-long, take a horse-drawn hayride, join a Western line dance or just relax. Colorado Trails Ranch has been specializing in family vacations since 1960 – join them for an experience your family will always remember.
Horseback Riding Whether you’re a beginner or experienced rider, you’ll feel right at home on the ranch’s horses, enjoying the scenery as you ride through some of the most beautiful country in Colorado.
Rides are grouped by ability, age and desire – and with 85 horses to choose from, they’re sure to find one that suits you perfectly. Morning, afternoon and all-day rides are offered with no more than six guests to a wrangler. The rides range from scenic walk rides to loping through the trees and meadows, depending on what you’d like to do. If you’ve never ridden before or have limited experience, they’ll show you the basics and get you comfortable with riding. If you’re an experienced rider, you’ll appreciate the quality of their horses and will be delighted by a progressive program and challenging trails. For advanced riders, CTR offers a half-day Longhorn cattle drive, which is off-ranch and an additional charge.
Fly Fishing Colorado Trails Ranch offers a full-service fly fishing program with over two miles of private water on the Florida River and access to high mountain streams in the San Juan National Forest. For an additional charge, there’s also wade fishing on the "Blue Ribbon Waters" of the San Juan River just below the Navajo Dam in New Mexico. In addition for free-flowing streams, CTR offers stocked fishing on nearby ranch ponds.
You can expect to catch rainbow, cutthroat, brown and brook trout on your half-day and full-day fishing trips. Guides happily work with novices and experts (and anywhere in between). The ranch provides all the essential supplies you need to enjoy the best trout fishing in the beautiful mountains of southwest Colorado.
Family Activities Colorado Trails Ranch is a great destination for vacationing families, whether you’re riding horses, river rafting, hiking through the forest or enjoying a horse-drawn hayride. Of course, there are quite a number of other activities you can choose to do – water ski and power tube, swim in the ranch’s heated pool or soak in the hot tub, try your hand at trap shooting or archery, or just kick back and enjoy the spectacular scenery and fresh mountain air. In the evening, there are campfire cookouts and sing-a-longs, Victorian Melodrama in Durango (additional charge), Western dancing, and ice cream socials. Whatever you choose to do, your Colorado Trails Ranch vacation will be the experience of a lifetime – one you’ll want to repeat again and again.
