Overview
The Running-R Guest Ranch is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. In 1992, the ranch was converted from an early 1900s working ranch into a full-service guest ranch without loosing the authentic atmosphere and charm of the “old times”. Surrounded by memories of lost Indian tribes and battles for independence, the scenery is everything the movies show - and more. The 230-acre ranch is located right next to a 5,500-acre state park that offers miles and miles of trails in the most scenic and unspoiled nature of Texas. Steep hills or rocky canyons, clear creeks or flat plains covered with an array of colorful wildflowers, the landscape shows its finest whether horseback riding, hiking or biking.
Horseback riding is the biggest attraction on the ranch. With about 40 horses available for various levels of riders, the Running-R Ranch offers the best horseback riding program in the area. Guests can choose from a relaxed one-hour ride on the ranch up to a five-hour tour into the state park, with a picnic lunch provided on the trail amidst breathtaking scenery. For those guests who want to improve their riding skills, lessons are available in the arena. Guests are also more than welcome to join the ranch hands feeding, grooming or working the horses.
The Running-R Ranch is also within reasonable driving distance of many rivers with such romantic and historical names as Medina, Guadalupe, Sabinal or Frio. The rivers make for fishing, tubing or canoeing a memorable experience for everyone. After a busy day of activities, there’s still time for some two-stepping or waltzing in one of the unique honkytonks and dance halls in Bandera, the “Cowboy Capital of the World”. Bandera won this title from a number of world champion rodeo riders it has produced. Cowboys still come from all over Texas to prove their skills in the weekly rodeos during the summer.
“Home on the range”, the evenings are more quiet and relaxing. The rocking chairs invite guests to rock and talk with the staff and hosts, all the while watching the horses graze peacefully. Time to watch spectacular sunsets, star-studded night skies, listen to the song of Whippoorwills calling to each other, or the howl of coyotes in the distance. Texas has a quality of light and romance all it's own and not easily forgotten. The Running-R Ranch is the place to experience it all!
