Overview

The Hideout includes a 5,000 square foot log lodge complete with cozy log cabins, their own customized rodeo arena and beautiful horse barn. Along with first-class accommodations, they provide a friendly atmosphere, plenty of adventure and mouth-watering ranch-style food. The Hideout is perfect for individuals, couples, groups or corporations. Within the lodge is a spacious dining area, a comfortable sitting area to relax and enjoy the view, listen to cowboy stories, or read a book and a spectacular loft where you can enjoy a drink from the wet bar and add your story to a never-changing western folklore. Whether you sit in your rocking chair to watch the setting sun's rays lightly brush the mountains with brilliant colors, breathe the mountain-fresh air, or listen to the wind embracing the trees in the hot tub, your senses will be pleasantly overwhelmed.

After a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast, you are ready to participate in the adventures of the ranch. Founded in 1906, The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch is one of the oldest and largest ranches in the state. Working together with "real" Wyoming cowboys, you will help move and "work" over 1,000 head of cattle, practice your roping skills, check and repair fences, help calve, participate in weekend brandings, or train colts. You may also want to fly-fish in a cool mountain stream, try out the trap shooting facility, hike or ride horses through a forest of lodgepole pine, Englemann spruce, and Rocky Mountain juniper, or sleep under the stars atop the Big Horn Mountains where the stars seem brighter than anywhere else.

The Hideout has two lodges – the Main Lodge and the Upper Hideout. The Main Lodge is at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains (4,000 ft.) and is surrounded by five luxurious and comfortable cabins (15 rooms). There's a hot tub, a trap shooting facility, and a barn, along with a custom size arena to practice roping skills (they keep about 15 longhorn steers for practice and demonstrations) and barrel racing. The Upper Hideout is located right in the mountains (8,000 ft.) and is about a six-hour ride from the Main Lodge. Every week one or two night trips are organized to the Upper Hideout. This is an ideal base of operation to work the cattle in the summer. The Upper Hideout consists of a main lodge and three cabins (6 rooms) for guests.

Guests who come to the ranch have various riding backgrounds. The Hideout caters to beginners, as well as advanced riders with higher expectations. Working cattle allows all of these riders to be together. They also offer scenic, more relaxing trail rides in the foothills and give riding lessons in their arena. Their guest season starts in early spring, with the branding weekends. While the young calves gain strength in the foothills, they have to keep moving the herd often because the grass is scarce and they have to wait for the snow to melt before they can move them to the mountains. Their spring cattle drive generally takes place at the end of June or in early July. Aside from horseback riding, there are a variety of activities that guests can choose from: fly-fishing, trap shooting (they have a beautiful facility!), day trips to Yellowstone or Custer's Battle Field, shopping trips to Cody and the Buffalo Bill Museum, guided trips to the Red Gulch Dinosaur Track Site (a must if you are in the area!), scenic airboat rides on the Big Horn River and more.
