All three options of the Fly Fishing School are intended for beginning fly fishers. Children should be at least ten years old.
One-Day Course Schools are scheduled as needed. Class size is limited to six students and two instructors. This is a full-day course from 8:00am to 4:30pm and includes instruction covering equipment, fly casting, knots, entomology, and fly selection. Equipment, handbook, and lunch are provided. Students must bring a hat and sunglasses. This course is conducted on the Gunpowder River. Students will be required to have a Maryland freshwater fishing license with a trout stamp.
Two-Day Course The two-day course includes the one-day school, plus a second day on the stream. Both days are limited to six students with two instructors. Schools are scheduled as needed. Day 1 includes all that is included in the one-day course. Day 2 includes practical entomology, reading water presentation and fishing techniques for nymphs/dry flies/streamers, specialty casts, and two to three hours of assisted fishing.
Equipment, wading gear, handbook and instruction materials provided, as well as lunch on both days. Students must bring a hat, sunglasses and appropriate clothing including rain gear. A Maryland freshwater fishing license with a trout stamp is required.
Personal On-Stream School This personal school is conducted exclusively for each booking client(s) with a dedicated instructor. Each course is scheduled on an as needed basis, seven days a week, April through October, depending on instructor and client availability. They are usually conducted on the Gunpowder or the Middle Patuxent River.
These personal courses cover the essential elements of the two-day school with emphasis on casting, reading water, and nymphing and dry fly techniques while fishing for trout.
The course includes all equipment, the two-day school book and lunch. A Maryland freshwater fishing license with a trout stamp is required.
