OUR HISTORY

Since 1997, Gordon’s Guide has been creating marketplaces for adventure travel businesses around the globe - bringing together adventure and active vacation providers and resorts with active travelers through travel books and their award winning adventure and active travel web site.

The Book
In 1994, Timothy Gordon set out to catalog the most exciting tour operators in the world by compiling all the information people need to take an action-packed adventure or active vacation into a 512-page book – Gordon’s Guide to Adventure Vacations.

As the sales of the Gordon’s Guide books took off at leading bookstores (including Barnes & Noble, Borders, B. Dalton and more), the Gordon’s Guide name became known as an authority on adventure travel for travel consumers and trade professionals alike. Book reviewers from coast to coast donned the book “the bible of adventure vacations.” It was then that Timothy and his team were ready to take their concept to the Internet – where they now offer dynamic services for consumers of adventure travel and the tour operators that service them.

The Magazine
In 2003, Gordon's Guide Travel Publications - the print division of Gordon's Guide - Adventure & Active Travel began work on a new series of Magazine Style travel directories of adventure & active vacations. Released in January of 2004 was the premier edition of "Dude Ranch Vacations & Horseback Adventures" - a 128 page travel directory containing over 300 exhilarating color photographs, and featuring 80 premier companies offering the finest western and horseback related vacations such as Dude & Guest Ranch Resorts, Cattle Drives & Working Ranches, Wagon Train Adventures, and Wilderness Pack Trip & Trail Ride Outfitters.

The Award Winning Web Site
Since its launch, GordonsGuide.com has put a solid stake in the ground as a premier adventure travel web site and has been awarded “Best of the Web” in the Adventure Travel category by Forbes Magazine in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and again in 2007. The core of the site is focused on adventure and active travel - it's a supermall of adventure and active vacations with 70 (and growing) travel categories featuring over 1000 adventure and active travel companies that are presented to consumers through membership listings called "Storefronts."
