DESCRIPTION

Cruise the spellbinding tropical rainforest of the Ecuador Amazon aboard the 40-guest Anakonda. This inspiring rainforest journey includes visits to the magical flooded forests at the Cuyabeno Nature Reserve, the untamed wilds within the Yasuni National Park (the largest national park in Ecuador) and the quiet stills of Pañacocha (Piranha Lake). Climb up canopy observation towers, inch down black-water jungle streams, walk the understory through meandering trails and meet the sacred peoples of the Amazon forest base.

Your home for this 4-, 5- or 8-day Amazon cruise is the air-conditioned, all-suite Anakonda. Anakonda Amazon Cruises are noted for being the only luxury cruises in the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest, so you can expect fine on-board amenities, dining and service.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Embark Coca & Yasuni National Park
Yasuni National Park, Ecuador

After a morning departure from Quito (a short 30-minute flight), arrive at the frontier city of Coca (Francisco de Orellana) and transfer to the Río Napo port. From here, journey by boat downstream (two hours) to board your M/V Anakonda cruise, all the while observing the forest-clad riverbanks of the silty-brown headwaters of the Amazon River. Lunch is served. Then disembark for a night walk to explore the nocturnal rainforest life and return onboard Anakonda for dinner.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Anakonda

MEALS: lunch and dinner

Day 2: Visiting The Pañacocha Biological Corridor
Piranha River, Ecuador

Continue navigating downstream to reach the Pañayacu River delta. Take a canoe through the Piranha River to see the sights of this interesting protected forest. Keep lookout for Pink River Dolphins, Common Squirrel Monkeys and much more. Pañacocha (Piranha Lake, in Quechua) is an ecosystem flooded by white waters. The rivers and lakes here are the perfect habitat for the infamous Piranha, as well as Water Monkey Fish (Arawana) and White Caiman. After a refreshing swim (for the courageous!), enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ and a cold drink at a nearby camping site. In the afternoon, head out on exploration trails, and return onboard your Anakonda cruise for dinner and a briefing lecture about the next day's program.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Anakonda

MEALS: breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 3: Parrot Clay Licks & Sani Warmi Interpretation Center
Amazon, Ecuador

Enjoy breakfast on board then set out to visit one of the most amazing spectacles this side of western Amazonia known as the parrot licks. These unique pools of mud become rich in minerals and attract hundreds of parrots, parakeets and amazons every day. If weather permits, you will have a chance to marvel at this astonishing natural phenomenon.

Later visit the Sani Warmi Kichwa Interpretation Center, where a group of Kichwa women will speak of their customs, cuisine and everyday life. They have created the center in order to showcase their culture, and it is a unique opportunity to learn about Amazonian lifestyles along the Napo River. You will also have the opportunity to buy crafts, local products and souvenirs. After lunch, make a stop at the Yakukawsay Kichwa Interpretation Center, and end with an interesting evening walk through the forest (depending on accessibility, river water levels and weather conditions).
