|Adventure Travel > Diamond R Guest Ranch > Montana Fly Fishing Adventures: Hike, Float & Wade Fish the Beautiful, Remote South Fork of the Flathead River with Optional Horseback Riding|
Diamond R Ranch welcomes everyone to experience Montana Fly Fishing adventures for pure-strain cutthroat and bull trout. Both novice & experienced anglers will enjoy the challenge of fly fishing the numerous rivers and creeks.
Our most popular guided outing is a ten-mile float of the South Fork of the Flathead River, designated as one of our country's "Wild and Scenic Rivers". This pristine and protected section of the South Fork of the Flathead, will test your dry fly fishing skills against the native Westslope Cutthroat Trout.
Around mid-day we'll find a good fishing hole and pull up for a streamside picnic lunch. Or, you may be tempted to wet your line and ignore your lunch! No to worry - we'll take good care of you once you arrive back at the lodge for a hot & fresh home-cooked meal of comfort food.
We recommend you book your Adventure-of-a-Lifetime soon. In this part of the country, the Montana Fly Fishing season is short but action-filled. The peak months of July & August are most popular. And to ensure our guests experience a relaxing Montana adventure, we limit our capacity.

Once you've been on the South Fork of the Flathead you'll understand why it's treasured by many. Whether you're here for the incredible Montana Fly Fishing or simply to enjoy the natural beauty, you're sure to appreciate the miles of sparkling clear water. A large portion of the river is federally designated "Wild and Scenic" meaning this magnificent stretch of water will remain pristine with an abundant supply of the purest strain of native Westslope Cutthroats in the state of Montana.
If you're a wade fishing enthusiast you're sure to relish time spent on the Spotted Bear River, flowing directly below our lodge. Just step out of your cabin, stroll down the bank and fish upriver for miles. But be prepared for a day of solitude - You won't see a single building and likely won't see another person! There are also many creeks that feed into the South Fork of the Flathead and Hungry Horse Reservoir. These offer endless opportunities for hike & wade fishing with one of our experienced guides.
Our professional, experienced guides ensure a safe and relaxing adventure. Experience the best of backcountry Montana with all basic necessities provided.
Plan on arriving around 5 p.m. on the day preceding your first guided day. Most guests choose to rent a vehicle and enjoy the scenic two hour drive around Hungry Horse Reservoir. Be sure your camera is close at hand because every bend in the road will reveal a spectacular view, not to mention abundant wildlife. Upon arrival, we’ll help you get settled in your cabin and show you around the spread. During the next 3 to 5 days you’ll hike, float and wade fish the beautiful and remote South Fork of the Flathead River, or wade fish the Spotted Bear River and other secluded, pristine creeks.
If you’re up for it, seeing some of the country from horseback is available. We’ll be glad to find the right trails and mount to suit you. The countless miles of trails offer everything from dense, old growth forest to riding right up to the top of the world for seemingly endless views.
