Hiking & Cycling In Trinidad: Cumaca Cave
|Adventure Travel > The Pathmaster > Hiking & Cycling In Trinidad: Cumaca Cave|
Drive to Valencia, and cycle northwards into the Northern Range, towards Cumaca and Platinal. Leaving the cycles at a secure spot, you then hike alongside the river, past the old Cumaca Estate plantation house (now in ruins) to the Cumaca Cave, which extends into the mountain for over 100m. If river conditions are safe, you can wade into the cave for a closer look at the oil birds and the other organisms in this unusual ecosystem. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of the catfish that live in the pool that disappears under the mountain.
