Day 1: Prague. After you check-in we will meet at the reception and set out for a two-hour introductory walking tour of Prague with a professional guide. In the evening, we will meet for our orientation meeting and welcome dinner.
Day 2: Prague - Ceske Budejovice - Cesky KrumlovCesky Krumlov, Bohemia, Czech Republic
After a breakfast at our Hotel, we transfer to Ceske Budejovice, the beautiful center of Southern Bohemia and the home town of the original Budvar (Budweiser) beer. Before we set out on the road, we tour the brewery and make a short stop at the town's famous main square lined with Baroque and Renaissance buildings. We bicycle through beautiful rolling countryside with views of the Sumava Mountains in the distance, passing the most significant monastery in the country, Zlata Koruna. We then ride on into Cesky Krumlov, fairytale-like town and a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site. You will not find another town like Cesky Krumlov. The town was situated on the main trading route between Bavaria and Italy, which explains its splendor. We'll enjoy an evening stroll and a night's stay in this unbelievably beautiful and preserved medieval town.
Day 3: Cesky Krumlov - TrebonTrebon, Bohemia, Czech Republic
In the morning, we will take a guided tour of the Cesky Krumlov Castle, after which we head northeast on winding back roads through some of Europe's oldest nature reserves dating back two hundred years. Gradually, the terrain becomes flatter as we enter a wooded region abounding with sparkling lakes. We make our way to the town of Trebon, which dates back to the 11th century. The town used to be famous for its fishing industry. In the afternoon, you can wander about this easy-to-navigate picturesque town, visit the beautiful chateau gardens and enjoy some beer at the town's 16th century Regent brewery.
Day 4: Trebon - Jindrichuv Hradec - Nova BystriceNova Bystrice, Bohemia, Czech Republic
We leave Trebon cycling on small country roads, passing many of the region's ponds, cruising through golden wheat fields and occasionally stopping to check out some of the quaint villages, their churches of various architectural styles and unique folk architecture. Eventually, we reach Jindrichuv Hradec, the beautifully-preserved Renaissance center of Southern Bohemia, complete with a Gothic castle and Renaissance chateaus. After our visit to this lively historical town, we set out again on small country roads, this time through the slightly hilly, magnificently-pristine countryside called "Czech Canada" for its beauty and sparse population. We arrive in Nova Bystrice, a small, charming town where time has stood still.
Day 5: Nova Bystrice - Slavonice - Dacice - TelcTelc, Moravia, Czech Republic
Today, there are some climbs ahead of us but the rewards are more than worth it. First, after a short ride from our hotel, we visit the Gothic Landstejn Castle, originally built in the 12th century as a fort. The spectacular views of the surrounding countryside from the top of the castle's tallest tower are worth the climb. Next we ride to Slavonice, a beautifully-preserved little historical town nicknamed the Renaissance Pearl. We’ll take a break here and visit the town's main Renaissance square. After some more riding, we arrive at the remarkable 13th century town of Telc, also called the “Moravian Venice”. A guided tour of the splendid Telc Chateau awaits you in the afternoon. In the evening, you can take a stroll around the town’s main square and have a beer or glass of wine in one of the many restaurants or cafes.
Day 6: HumpolecHumpolec, Highlands, Czech Republic
Leaving Telc, we travel along the small roads of the lovely Moravian Highland, passing the ruins of Rostejn Castle and the town of Trest with its synagogue and rich Jewish history (Franz Kafka used to live here). From Trest, we head further north and enjoy the pristine nature, forests, valleys and small towns and villages, as always with lots of churches and other historical monuments along the way. Eventually, we arrive at our final stop for the day - Humpolec - for centuries the center of silver mining and textile industries. There is also a microbrewery in Humpolec. The beer made there is excellent and the locals swear it's the best beer in the world. You can try it for yourself.
Day 7: Humpolec - Kutna HoraKutna Hora, Bohemia, Czech Republic
Heading north, we'll follow the Sazava River into the charming little town of Ledec, where you can enjoy a lunch and explore the castle and the town’s historical center. Passing colorful villages and plentiful vistas of meadows and fields, we finally arrive at Kutna Hora, yet another UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Thanks to its silver mines and coin minting industry, this medieval town rivaled Prague in wealth during the 15th century. The dollar actually got its name from "tolar", which was minted here. After our arrival, we’ll visit the imposing Cathedral of St. Barbara, located in the center of the town.
Day 8: Kutna Hora - PragueBohemia, Czech Republic
After breakfast, we visit the nearby Ossuary, a small chapel decorated with more than 40,000 human bones (dating back to the Plague in the 15th century). Our final day of cycling takes us back to Prague through the orchards, forests and wheat fields of the Bohemian countryside. We will ride into Prague and you can enjoy some more sightseeing before our farewell dinner.
