3-Day Float Trip: Guided Gold Medal Fly Fishing in Colorado's Famed Gunnison Gorge
|Adventure Travel > Bill Dvorak Rafting & Kayak Expeditions > 3-Day Float Trip: Guided Gold Medal Fly Fishing in Colorado's Famed Gunnison Gorge|
This is a Colorado fly fishing dream trip below the world-famous Black Canyon National Park's "Gunnison River Gorge".
We offer 1-2 or 3 days of customized, guided Gold Medal fly fishing float trips. This unique canyon has deep rock walls, classic dark pools and runs clear waters of class II to III rapids. It is a Catch & Release fishery with a fish count of over 7000 Rainbow and Brown trout per mile, 1000 of which are 14-35 inches. Gold Medal fisheries are 60 pounds of fish per acre and the Gunnison Gorge has over 400 pounds per acre!
The limited access and unique 'Hatches' makes these very exclusive trips. A maximum capacity on our selected dates is 8 anglers, 2 per raft. Our professional guides will prepare your meals (lunch thru lunch) and set up the camp. There is a mild one-mile hike down into the gorge and the finish point is easily 3 full days (14 miles) downstream at the Gunnison Forks Park (our meeting location).
ADDITION RATE INFORMATION
JUNE ONLY IS THE FAMOUS STONEFLY HATCH DATES; 8 MAXIMUM ANGLERS (2 PER BOAT) EXCLUSIVE @ $550 PER DAY PER PERSON.
Day 1: General Itinerary For 3-Day Fishing ExpeditionGunnison River, Colorado, United States
You will be met by your guide at the finish point for the trip (Gunnison Forks Pleasure Park) at 7:00 a.m. where you will transfer your personal gear into our backpack dry bags. Our shuttle to the trailhead (Chuckar Trail) is about 45 minutes 4x4 drive into the Gorge. It is a 1-mile hike down to the river where your boats are set up and the other guides are waiting. You will be able to rig your rods here and have a safety talk before you launch onto the river. There is opportunity to do some wade fishing here as well, as the guides may run upstream for about a mile and float back down to start the trip.
Lunch will happen around mid day when the fishing slows down. After lunch, you will continue your float slowly to the campsite where your guides will set up camp and prepare the meals; this will allow you time to wade fish the shore up and down from camp. There are areas for camps that will have steep rock/gorge walls and you may not be able to travel very far. No problem, the fish per mile exceeds the GOLD MEDAL quality.
Day 2:Gunnison River, Colorado, United States
After your morning coffee call and breakfast, you will again be able to wade fish some before you return to the river for another day of float fishing, lunch and on to camp for the second night. There are some great hikes from camps that you might want to enjoy or you may choose to relax at camp and catch up on a good book, stories of your day, and always the service of your guides preparing the meal, appetizers and complimentary wine with dinner. If you wish to bring your own beer or spirits, please put it in plastic or cans only. You can contact our office and we'll be happy to pick up your order and get it horse-packed to the river for your trip.
Day 3:Gunnison River, Colorado, United States
Your last day can once again be a full-day float with lunch at Smith Fork waterfall where you can relax, wade fish, go for a hike and swim before continuing to the end of the trip, back at the Gunnison Forks Pleasure Park where your car will be waiting for you. If we have picked you up from Montrose lodging, our staff will return you to the same for your flight out the next morning.
