Greece Wine Tour: Peloponnese & Central Greece
|Adventure Travel > Wine Lovers Tours > Greece Wine Tour: Peloponnese & Central Greece|
Greece has everything a wine lover could ask for: wine, cuisine and culture. According to Ray Isle of Food & Wine Magazine, “Greek wines may be the most underrated on the planet.” We tend to agree. Greek wines keep drawing more attention and the country is earning its way into one of the top wine destinations in the world. Greek cuisine is world famous and the Greek temples are just a small part of the historical legacy which contributed to Western Civilization.
Everyone associates the Parthenon and Greek temples with Greece so we know about the cultural dimensions of a visit. Greek cuisine is unique in the world and needs no introduction thanks to the exposure we have from the many Greek restauranteurs. But when it comes to wine, there are 7 wine regions, 28 appellations and more than 200 grape varieties spread across Greece, making expert planning and guidance a benefit. In fact, there are so many areas and wineries worthy of visits that doing them justice in one single tour would be a challenge and too intense for “wine vacation,” so we developed the “Greek Wine Lovers Odyssey,” a 3-part series of separate tours of Greece: Northern (focusing on Macedonia and Thessaly); Central/Southern Greece (this tour focusing on Attica and the Peloponnese) and the Islands (Crete & Santorini). With Wine Lovers Tours, you can be assured that you will visit among the very best wineries from these regions.
Our focus on our Southern & Central Greece tour will be on the very best food and wine these areas have to offer and experiencing many of the newer wineries that are making world class wines. Starting in Athens on May 27, you’ll visit many of Attica’s top wineries as well as cultural sites as the world famous Parthenon or Athens Daytrips: Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. You’ll then stay in the charming seaport town of Nafplion, our base for the next 4 days as you explore the surrounding wines, food and history of the Peloponnese. Intermixed with winery visits, you’ll also visit the ancient sites of Corinth and Epidavros.
This is a cultural and wine experience of a lifetime and when this tour is over on June 2, you’ll return home with new appreciation of the wines and history of the Peloponnese and Central Greece, or…you may wish to continue your “Greek Wine Lovers Odyssey” by joining our Greek Island Wine Tour to Crete & Santorini which follows.
