ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive Lima
Lima, Peru

This is your international flight day. Most international flights arrive into Lima in the late evening. You are met by your local representative and your private transport in the international airport in Lima and taken to your hotel in the Miraflores area.

Miraflores is located about 45 minutes away from the International Airport, right along the coast, and is a popular and safe place for travelers to stay. There are many stores, activities and fantastic restaurants in the area, as well as beautiful walking areas along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Day 2: Lima
Lima, Peru

A nice buffet breakfast is included in the hotel here. You have a chance to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and morning to relax and walk around the area before having your city tour this afternoon.

Our transport and guide will pick us up directly from the hotel. Today you will be seeing the sites in the centre of the city of Lima: the catacombs of the San Francisco Church, the interesting Inquisition Museum, the Cathedral, the Government Palace and the main Plaza de Armas. We will enjoy lunch in the downtown area.

Our welcome dinner as a group will be enjoyed at one of the restaurants overlooking the ocean.

Day 3: Lima To Arequipa
Arequipa, Peru

We are transferred back to the airport for the short flight to Arequipa. We arrive in at about noon and are transferred to our hotel near the centre of the city. This afternoon we have a walking tour of some of the main sites of the city, including the Cathedral and the Museo Andino, where we can view the mummy of Juanita, and Incan sacrifice found in the area. Our afternoon concludes with a tour of the Santa Catalina Convent.

Arequipa is well known as the “white” city, with beautiful buildings constructed from the volcanic stone “sillar” and it beautifully lit at night, so we will enjoy dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Plaza de Armas and the magnificent Cathedral.

Because Arequipa is located at an altitude higher than sea level, stopping here and travelling by bus to Puno is a good way to acclimatize to higher altitudes.

Day 4: Colca Canyon
Colca Canyon, Arequipa, Peru

We depart at 6:30 this morning to start our two-day tour to the Colca Canyon. Along the way we will pass the Reserva Nacional de Vicunas. From the height of 4300 masl, we will be able to appreciate the first view of the Valley. On the descent we will visit the shelters of some original settlers (8000 years old.) At Mollepunko, you will see some pre-Incan paintings. Continuing along, we will visit the imposing castles at Callali. Tonight we will spend in the town of Chivay, where we can relax in the local hot springs.

Day 5: Chivay To Puno
Colca Canyon, Arequipa, Peru

After an early breakfast, we leave for Cruz del Condor to view the magnificent condors in flight and have a fabulous view of the Colca Canyon. From here we travel on to the town of Cabanaconde, stopping several times at viewpoints to see the canyon, before returning to Chivay. After lunch we begin the journey to Puno in our private transport.

We can enjoy a walk around the main Plaza de Armas in Puno and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 6: Lake Titicaca
Lake Titicaca, Puno, Peru

Today we depart early from our hotel for our tour by boat on Lake Titicaca. This tour takes us to the floating reed islands of Uros, and the Island of Taquile. The famous reed islands of Uros are amazing, and here we will learn how the locals live on the islands and the traditions and customs that are continued today.

We continue by boat to the island of Taquile, where the group enjoys a 1-hour hike towards the main village. On the way the guide will explain about traditions and live on the island. Once in the main village you will be given free time to explore the local handicraft market.

Taquile has approximately 1,200 inhabitants. The people from this island have a Quechua origin and they are mostly small farmers. However, since mid-70s they have also become well known for their firm entrepreneurial spirit. Since the beginning of the tourism flow to the island, some “Taquilenos” have been participating directly with the tourism activities. Some of them have organized themselves to provide tourism services such as home stays, restaurants and boat transportation.

We return to Puno late in the day and have the evening free to enjoy the city. There are shops, restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Day 7: Puno To Cusco
Cuzco, Peru

This morning we depart on the tourist bus to Cusco. This comfortable bus stops at the sites of Pukara (museum), La Raya (highest point on the road), Raqchi (Inca archeological site) and Andahuaylillas (the Sistene Chapel of the Americas) along the way, as well as for a buffet lunch (included) in the town of Sicuani. We arrive into Cusco, the Imperial City of the Incas, at about 5 pm and are transferred to our hotel near the centre of the city.

After some time to get accommodated, your tour leader will take you on a short walking orientation tour of the center of this amazing city. We can enjoy a nice dinner at one of the restaurants in or near the Plaza.

Day 8: Cusco
Cuzco, Peru

A leisurely morning to enjoy the breakfast and hotel before departing on a walking tour of the city center and its sites. Your local guide and tour leader will meet you in the hotel in the late morning to start off with a visit to the main Plaza de Armas, the magnificent Cathedral, a walk through the streets to see the famous twelve angled stone and a tour of the Sun Temple of Qoricancha.

Later this afternoon you meet another local guide, who will take you through the local market of San Pedro to show you the foods of the region. From here you continue to the Chocolate Museum, where you have the chance to learn to prepare some traditional Peruvian dishes, and then eat your creations! This is a three course dinner and alcohol is not included. The rest of the evening is free for you to enjoy the city.

Day 9: Cusco To Sacred Valley
Sacred Valley, Cuzco, Peru

This morning we are picked up from our hotel by our private transport and guide to travel to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We stop first for a tour of the large ruins located above the city, Sacsayhuaman. Here you have magnificent views of the city and an opportunity to view this large set of remains.

Continuing on, we arrive to the small town of Pisaq, where we will have a tour of the ruins above and an opportunity to visit the local market, with its unique items. Your guide and tour leader can help you bargain! Lunch can be enjoyed here before travelling on to the next destination.

Our final destination and where we will be spending the night, is the fortress town of Ollantaytambo. Here the whole town is built on Incan remains, and is a lovely place to see the stars at night. We will have a tour of the ruins before having the evening to enjoy the town.

Day 10: Sacred Valley / Weaving Village / Aguas Calientes
Sacred Valley, Cuzco, Peru

Our transport and guide will be waiting to take us up into the hills behind the town, to visit a weaving village – Huilloc. Here you have the opportunity to watch the locals weaving in the traditional way, and see the traditional clothing and living styles. We will stop along the way to have a picnic lunch.

Later this afternoon we return to Ollantaytambo to catch the train to the town of Aguas Calientes. We will have time to relax in the local hot springs tonight if you choose, and enjoy dinner in the town. There are plenty of places to shop or choose to relax in the hotel.

Day 11: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu - Cusco
Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Peru

We rise early to leave the town of Aguas Calientes and catch the bus up to the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour before spending some time on our own to soak up the energy here. If you like, your tour leader can accompany you to the Sun Gate, which is the entry point of the traditional Inca Trail. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant or the snack bar, or simply enjoy the time in this famous site.

Later this afternoon you descend by bus again to Aguas Calientes where you will be catching your return train to Poroy, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to our hotel in Cusco. The rest of the night is free to enjoy the city.
