You are met by your local representative and your private transport in the international airport in Lima and taken to your hotel in the Miraflores area.

Miraflores is located about 45 minutes away from the International Airport, right along the coast, and is a popular and safe place for travelers to stay. There are many stores, activities and fantastic restaurants in the area, as well as beautiful walking areas along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Day 2: Lima Culinary Experience
Lima, Peru

You can have a little sleep in this morning if you like, and enjoy the buffet breakfast on your own.

This morning we jump right into a Peruvian gastronomic experience. Peruvian cuisine is receiving worldwide recognition and Cala restaurant has a special place in the local gastronomic field. At this lovely restaurant, which boasts a privileged location right on the shore of the Pacific Ocean, you will delight in the culinary pleasures Peru has to offer and you will learn to prepare the famous Pisco Sour and celebrated ceviche. Then, you will be able to enjoy an exquisite beachfront gourmet lunch. This tour includes a visit to a traditional Peruvian market where you will appreciate the natural produce and ingredients that have made Peruvian food famous.

This tour departs at 11 am and takes approximately 3.5 hours. We return to the hotel before departing on a walking tour of the Miraflores area. You can also have some time to rest before our first dinner as a group together.

Day 3: Lima To Cusco
Cusco, Peru

You can enjoy an early breakfast this morning before we head back to the airport for the short flight to the Imperial City of the Incas – Cusco. This famous city was the center of the Incan world and, of course, is the best place to arrive in to experience the area. This beautiful Andean city hosts some of the most interesting historical sites in the area.

Upon arrival, we are transferred to our hotel in the center of the city. We are going to take it easy this afternoon as we all acclimatize to the high altitude. Cusco is located at 3330 masl, and arriving at this altitude from sea level requires us to have an easy afternoon and early evening.

We will enjoy a light lunch at a local restaurant and have a slow walking tour of the sites in the center of the city. Our tour this afternoon will include the Sun Temple of Qoricancha, the main Plaza de Armas, and the magnificent Cathedral, as well as some of the important Incan streets surrounding the Plaza.

Our day concludes with a free evening. This means that you can either head off on your own for dinner, or join your tour leader to experience one of her favorite local restaurants.

Day 4: Cusco To Sacred Valley Of The Incas
Sacred Valley, Cusco, Peru

This morning you can enjoy breakfast in the hotel before we depart for our day in the Sacred Valley. We start the day with a visit to the largest site just above the city of Cusco: Sacsayhuaman. Along with our local guide, we can experience the site and the views of the city before heading over the pass and down to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Along the route we will stop for pictures and information from our guide. Our first stop along the descent is to an alpaca and vicuna farm where you will learn the differences of these unique animals, and some of the interesting dyeing and weaving techniques of the area. From here we continue down to the town of Pisaq, where you can wander the artisan market before we stop for lunch.

After lunch we will head up to the archeological site located above the town of Pisaq, to have a complete guided visit. After, our journey continues down the valley to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will learn about this town that was built on Incan foundations. We will visit a house full of guinea pigs, view still functioning aqueducts, and visit a “chicheria” to try some purple corn beer.

We will be spending the night in Ollantaytambo. If the sky is clear, this is a fantastic place to view the stars. You can join your tour leader for dinner or head off on your own.

Day 5: Sacred Valley To Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu, Peru

We start this morning early with a guided visit to the archeological site of Ollantaytambo. It is best to visit the site early to avoid crowds and the heat of the day. After our visit, we will meet our transport to take us up into the hills behind the town, to visit a couple of weaving villages – Huilloc and Patacancha. Here you have the opportunity to watch the locals weaving in the traditional way, and see the traditional clothing and living styles. We will have the opportunity to experience a traditional Pachamanca, a traditional meal baked in the earth.

Later this afternoon we return to Ollantaytambo to catch the train to the town of Aguas Calintes. We will have time to relax in the local hot springs tonight if you choose, and enjoy dinner in the town. There are plenty of places to shop or choose to relax in the hotel.

Day 6: Machu Picchu To Cusco
Aguas Calientes, Cusco, Peru

We rise early to leave the town of Aguas Calientes and catch the bus up to the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu. We will have a guided tour before spending some time on our own to soak up the energy here. If you like, your tour leader can accompany you to the Sun Gate, which is the entry point of the traditional Inca Trail. Enjoy lunch at the restaurant or the snack bar, or simply enjoy the time in this famous site.

Later this afternoon you descend by bus again to Aguas Calientes where you will be catching your return train to Poroy, where our transport will be waiting to take us back to our hotel in Cusco. The rest of the night is free to enjoy the city.

**NOTE. At the time of planning of this itinerary, Machu Picchu entrances allow all day access, however, there are plans that this will be changed in 2018, so please be aware that our time in the site may be limited by an entrance and exit time.

Day 7: Cusco
Cusco, Peru

A leisurely morning and afternoon to enjoy the city on your own. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied, including museums, shopping and other activities.

Tonight you have two options for dinner (please note that we will ask your preference at time of booking).

OPTION 1: Cooking Lesson

Your cooking lesson starts in the late afternoon with a visit to the local San Pedro market to purchase some of the goods that are required for your lesson. You are accompanied by a local chef, who will help you with the purchases, and return to the private kitchen to learn to make some of the traditional Peruvian dishes, along with a Pisco Sour. You have fun preparing and then enjoying a three course meal.

OPTION 2: Traditional Dance Show and Buffet Dinner

A delicious buffet dinner accompanied by a traditional dance show, showcasing the dances of various areas of Peru.

Day 8: Cusco To Lima
Lima, Peru

A sleep-in this morning is possible before we head back to the airport and the city of Lima. In Lima, we will be transferred to our hotel in Miraflores. You have the rest of the day free until we meet as a group for our farewell dinner.

Day 9: Lima Out To Home
Lima, Peru

You will be transferred back to the airport for your flight home. Please note that most flights depart Lima in the middle of the night, so your transfer may be on Saturday, April 7th late evening. You must be at the airport approximately 3 hours in advance of your flight.
